Vertigo and Dizziness Treatment

Vertigo and dizziness affect millions of Americans every year.  For adults over the age of 70, it is the most common complaint in primary care offices.  Unfortunately, it is also perhaps the most ignored.  Because dizziness can come from a variety of sources, many people, including physicians, simply accept dizziness and imbalance as a "normal" part of aging.

The good news is that, for many types of dizziness, effective, non-invasive treatments are available.  For the most common form of dizziness, Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, manual, pain-free, and quick techniques result in complete resolution of symptoms in over 85% of sufferers...in one treatment!  For other types of dizziness, such as vestibular hypofunction (when the inner ear system has been affected and is not "up to snuff"), treatment involves simple, effective movement-based exercises to teach the system to compensate.  These techniques dramatically reduce dizziness and improve balance; usually very quickly.

In March of 2011, Kim Gallagher, PT, MPT, completed a rigorous competency-based course at Emory University focusing on physical therapy management of vertigo and balance disorders related to the vestibular (inner ear) system.  To our knowledge, Kim is one of only a small handful of Physical Therapists in Maine to complete this rigorous training.

If you or someone you care about suffer from dizziness, vertigo, or other balance problems, don't suffer in silence.  Expert, professional help is right here in Rockland.
